Allied Diagnostic Pathology Consultants, P.A. (ADPC) is based in Wilmington, Delaware, and comprised of highly skilled board certified pathologists. All of our pathologists have extensive experience in general surgical pathology and cytopathology. In addition, the group provides expertise in gynecological, breast, prostate, gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology. Specialized tests including various antibody panels and breast cancer markers are available on-site to ensure rapid turn-around time for results. Allied Diagnostic's main laboratory at St. Francis Hospital provides a wide range of anatomic and clinical pathology services. In addition to state-ot-the-art instrumentation, the laboratory is equipped with an integrated information system to provide rapid case reporting and data retrieval. Located on the main hospital campus in the Medical Services Building, the laboratory is fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists and the Health Care Financing Administration.

Our Pathology Staff is easily available for case discussion and review at any time. Finalized reports are faxed to designated numbers upon completion, with follow-up hard copies by regular mail. Telephone calls are made by pathologists whenever requested. As part of the local medical community, we feel that physician to physician communication is vital to optimum patient care.


Our Staff

Joseph Depenbusch, M.D., FCAP, FASCP is board certified in both anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa. Directly after medical school he went to Michigan State University where he did basic pharmacologic research in the treatment of parasitic diseases, publishing several papers and reviews involving the drug treatment of schistosomiasis. He then completed his Anatomic Pathology Residency at Penn State University and the Hershey Medical Center and his Clinical Pathology residency at the University of Wisconsin/Madison. After his residencies, Dr. Depenbusch performed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology and Election Microscopy at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Dr. Depenbusch has practiced pathology in Indiana and Pennsylvania for six years and then at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware for fourteen years. Dr. Depenbusch brings diverse experience in all areas of anatomic pathology as well as clinical pathology, having served at various times as director of chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology divisions of the clinical laboratory.

Sophia N. Kotliar, M.D., FCAP, is a 1989 graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She completed her pathology residency at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL, and subsequently performed fellowships in both surgical pathology and cytopathology at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, Dr. Kotliar brings to Allied Diagnostic considerable experience in cancer pathology with an added expertise in performing and interpreting superficial fine needle aspirates and superficial needle core biopsies of palpable lesions.

While her research has been presented at national pathology conferences, Dr. Kotliar has also published her studies in various medical journals including Modern Pathology, Diagnostic Cytopathology and the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

James M. Monihan, M.D., FCAP, a native of Wilmington, graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1984 and subsequently completed his pathology residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA. Following an assignment as a staff pathologist and director of the blood program at Fort Bragg, NC, Dr. Monihan served for two years in the Hepatic and Gastrointestinal Branch of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.

Board certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Dr. Monihan's research has been published in journals including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Human Pathology and the American Journal of Gastroenterology, as well as presented at national and international meetings. His teaching experience has included assistant professorships at the Medical College of Georgia and the Uniformed Services University of Health Services, as well as presentations at institutions such as Temple University, Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Practicing at St. Francis Hospital since 1994, Dr. Monihan continues to participate in research involving diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and mesentery.

Mazhar Rishi, M.D., MBA, FCAP, is board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, and specializes in advanced gynecological and breast pathology. After receiving his medical degree from Dow Medical College, Pakistan in 1984, Dr. Rishi completed his residency in pathology at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C., followed by a fellowship in Cytopathology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Rishi served as the Director of Cytopathology at the David Grant USAF Medical Center in California and later at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. He was appointed by the U.S. Air Force to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) where he served as the Assistant Chairman of the Department of Gynecological and Breast Pathology. Dr. Rishi earned his MBA in Health Care Administration from Wilmington College. In addition to service work, Dr. Rishi has taught medical students, pathology resident and fellows at various academic institutions including Thomas Jefferson University and the University of California, Davis, presented several papers in peer reviewed journals and won awards in teaching, research and service work.
